Pain management (also called pain medicine) is that branch of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach to easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with pain. The typical pain management team includes medical practitioners, clinical psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nurse practitioners. Pain usually resolves promptly once the underlying trauma or pathology has healed, and is treated by one practitioner, with drugs such as analgesics and (occasionally) anxiolytics. Effective management of long term pain, however, frequently requires the coordinated efforts of the management team. From Wikipedia under the

I just extracted two of my bottom wisdom teeth and i the doctor didn't give me a prescription for pain relief medicine. Can you guys recommend what i should get? Asked by Peter - Mon Jun 18 18:53:26 2007 - - 13 Answers - 1 Comments A. As a dentist myself I always recommend Motrin (Ibuprofen), this is the best Over The Counter pain reliever as it will not only help with pain but will also help with inflammation. I usually recommend that my patients take between 600-800mg for ages over 18. Also try an ice pack, this will help numb the area affected and help with inflammation as well. If the pain becomes severe you may want to consider calling your dentists emergency number for advice or to have him/her call you in some narcotic pain medication. Good luck and feel better soon! I have Percocet and valume I'm trying to figure out witch one would work better to control the pain for the 4 to 5 hours of tattooing. The other posters r correct, any kind of pain med really does thin the blood, as does alcohol, which can lead to u bleeding extensively while ur getting it done. Not only would this be dangerous for u, but also hella messy for the tattooist and might cause complications with the job being done properly. Have u asked about any kind of numbing cream or gel? i used this when i had my lower back tat finished, i was unable to handle the pain the first time i went for the outline, so had the cream put on to get it finished. This cream doesnt completely numb the area, but does make it a little more bearable i think. You would have to pay extra for this and the one that i used, i had to go there an hour earlier to get it put on, wait till it… [cont.] Answered by psycho_moo69 - Sat May 24 03:54:25 2008 How to handle an overdose of pain medicine?
Q. I am taking Darvocet-n 100, I had surgery on Monday to remove Endometriosis. Today has to be the worst (painful) yet so I took a dose of pain meds just 1 hour after another dose. I am clammy, my throat is numb, can anyone help without me calling 911? I appreciate everyones advice. I did call the ER and they gave me some simple advice. I am feeling 1000x better now! Thank you all!! :) Asked by shroomdaisy359 - Thu Mar 13 21:07:15 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Darvocet is a very dangerous opioid to overdose on. Even though its potency is very low (it is even weaker than codeine), it has a lot of non-opiate side-effects that can include seizures. However, you have not taken a serious overdose. You have just taken a double dose from what I gather. STOP at there. Do not take anymore. If you have stomach pains, drink a glass of cold water and lie down on your side. If you develop breathing difficulty, you have to call 911. Because of the risk of seizures from overdosing on this drug, I strongly suggest you go to the hospital. In general, a double dose of an opioid will not kill you, but in Darvocet's case, it has too many non-opiate side-effects so I strongly suggest you go to the hospital.
