What is the study of Preventive Medicine?
Q. I don t understand why a resident would go into the study, when a patient (or future patient I think) would go see a physician (because of it), or what it is in the medical field really.

A. It's almost all research based. It mostly investigates the causes of diseases and early detection of diseases. Some products of preventative medicine include: early intervention programs to counsel high risk patients on STDs, mammogram screening for early cancer dectection reducing chance for late stage cancer onset, blood tests monitoring normal ranges for various substances in your blood. Preventative medicine exists in all medical fields, but grew to a point where a new field has emerged specifically dealing with preventing diseases.

Is any preventive medicine available in USA for chikun guniya?

A. Sorry, there is no preventative vaccine for this viral infection, here in the U.S. or anywhere else...just as there is no specific treatment. It has to run its course and is treated symptomatically. Some things have been tried in the past for treating it, such as chloroquine, but with very limited success. Best that can be done is to treat the symptoms: rest, NSAIDS (non-steroid anti-inflamatory drugs) such as ibuprofen for fever and joint pain, and mild exercise for stiffness. Sometimes, doctors will order paracetamol to combat the fever and joint pain. Overmedication: Are people relying too much on medicine?
Q. Do you think people today are relying too much on medicine? And please tell me why you think so. I'm not sure if supplements or preventive medicine should be included as medicine. I think supplements have been popular and it might be a good idea to take them to help your body stay healthy. What problem might relying too much on medicine cause? Are you a person who easily takes any medicine when you just have a cold? Or are you a person who tries not to depend on any medicine but rather depend on something else, such as the alternative medicine? Any answer or opinin is appreciated.
