Answered by 2cents - Mon Jan 4 00:37:12 2010 On Average how long does it take to become a sports medicine doctor? Q. Right now im 19 years old and attending college. At first i was undecided because nothing interested me expect for sports. This is until i heard of sports medicine where you can combine sports and medical procedures together, which id love to do. I did research on it and know its extremely competitive and its a lot of hard work. I was wondering though if anyone knows on average how long it takes to become one? Asked by Vince - Mon Jul 27 12:36:50 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yea, it is really competitive and really stressful. It goes like this 4 years in college to get a bachelor's and take required classes.Take your MCATs then apply to medical school. Once you get in, it takes another 4 years to finish medical school. Then 3-5 years of residency. Then 1-3 year fellowship for sports medicine. So on average it takes around 11-15 years to be a sports medicine doctor. It pretty difficult and really competitive so be prepared. Good Luck Answered by Duke - Mon Jul 27 14:35:59 2009 what the difference between sports medicine physician and a physical therapist?
