Can preventive medicine be primary and medical clinics aid our health care system?
Q. I believe holistic clinics as our forefront could aid us in the cost of health care. In other words preventive medicine clinics aid us in our health and the medical clinics would be free to assist the more argent needs of our people. This would cut down on minor health problems in the emergency rooms and clinics. The upside would be our people would become aware of future illness and how to care for themselves before it became a major issue. Plus we would become more insightful to our own health care and better educated. Yes, our education systems do not truly assist us thoroughly in these matters.

A. It's cute to see someone so naive. What do you think the impact would be on our health if people ate healthy meals, exercised and didn't smoke? It would be amazing. People don't want to hear that, though. They want to abuse their bodies and then take a pill to make it all better.

A. welff has already given a good answer about the difference between reformed and classic chiros. And for all my rants about sCAM, I don't have much of a problem with reformed chiros, their success rate with muscular low back pain is about the same or better as massage, physio, or medication . On the other hand, the classical ones will CLAIM to be doing preventive health care when they get you to come in for tuneups and adjustments. There is no evidence that anything they do has any impact on health whatsoever. The classical ones have bought into the mythology of "innate energy" and "subluxations" and the magical idea that by adjusting the spine they are maintaining the flow of energy, which in turn maintains health. If they give advice… [cont.]

A. What I would recommend is a couple steps. First, talk to a few preventative doctors in your area (Chiropractors, Naturopaths, Massage Therapists, Osteopaths, etc) and talk to them about you wanting to do something in preventative medicine... ask what drew them to their specific fields. That will be a huge resource of life experience that you can draw from to find more accurately which field you may want to choose, not to mention possibly take out a few that you don't want. Second, you could check with any colleges and schools in your state/area that have degrees for preventative medicine available. You could call/E-mail some of the professors in those departments and ask them any questions you may have about the field as it relates to… [cont.]

Preventive medicine for hypo/hyper thyroidism?
Q. I have had a family member die of hyperthyroidism and another one diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Besides measuring TSH levels, is there anything I can do to monitor and take preventive action to ensure my thyroid is well.
Asked by Max - - Mon Sep 18 10:04:51 2006 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I have seen dozens of people completely reverse their thyroid conditions on a live food diet and get off their medications. So, if it can be reversed, it can be prevented. Radish juice is especially good for both hyper- and hypo-thyroidism. Do a google search on "live food" or "raw food" and "thyroid" and you will not be disappointed. If you cannot find anything, email me and I'll send you my file which is full of great testimonials from people who have to keep cutting back on their meds because their thyroid starts to work again. So much for incompetent doctors who do NOT study food and say you'll be on medication for the rest of your life!

how Human Genetic is leading us toward preventive medicine?
Q. how Human Genetic is leading us toward preventive medicine?
Asked by stephen l - Sat Sep 16 05:13:29 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Genetic counseling is the process by which patients or relatives, at risk of an inherited disorder, are advised of the consequences and nature of the disorder, the probability of developing or transmitting it, and the options open to them in management and family planning in order to prevent, avoid or ameliorate it. This complex process can be seen from diagnostic (the actual estimation of risk) and supportive aspects. Since expert and private handling of genetic recurrence information is essential, practitioners must be certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Those seeking a Genetic Counselor can search their local area using the National Society of Genetic Counselors website.

Overmedication: Are people relying too much on medicine?
Q. Do you think people today are relying too much on medicine? And please tell me why you think so. I'm not sure if supplements or preventive medicine should be included as medicine. I think supplements have been popular and it might be a good idea to take them to help your body stay healthy. What problem might relying too much on medicine cause? Are you a person who easily takes any medicine when you just have a cold? Or are you a person who tries not to depend on any medicine but rather depend on something else, such as the alternative medicine? Any answer or opinin is appreciated. Please tell me what you think about this issue. Thank you.

A. People trust doctors, and doctors have been trained to treat illnesses with medication for short term, and/or long term basis. This system has been carefully crafted by pharmaceutical companies to insure their own success, and they are very, very successful. In the early 1900s, pharmaceutical companies started the practice of funding medical colleges that taught the practice of allopathy, treatment of illness with medicines. They also coerced colleges to remove courses like homeopathy and other holistic treatments or the P. companies would remove their lucrative funding. Thus we have a medical system that has a first approach of prescribing drugs. In my opinion it should be a last approach. I understand that medical doctors are not… [cont.]

A. Hi Kitten: A rebuke is like preventive medicine to the one wise enough to recognize it. Here are a couple of verses that may be helpful. Prov 9:8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Prov 13:1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

Asked by gopalsingh_khalsa - Fri Sep 8 22:51:15 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Chikungunya is a rare viral infection transmitted by infected mosquitoes (usually in tropical areas). Being viral, there is no specific treatment medical or homeopathic...it has to run its course. Some things have been tried in the past, such as chloroquine, but with very limited success. Best that can be done is to treat the symptoms: rest, NSAIDS (non-steroid anti-inflamatory drugs) such as ibuprofen for fever and joint pain, and mild exercise for stiffness. Sometimes, doctors will order paracetamol to combat the fever and joint pain. (I'm an R.N.)

A. There is no swine flu preventative, I honestly have no idea about homeopathic medicine. Unfortunately there is yet no vaccine available for H1N1. Preventative measure that can be taken towards swine flu is your usual basic hygiene such as using a tissue when squeezing and washing your hands after touching surfaces. This is because swine flu is not a disease but an influenza. Hope this helps xx
